Comprehensive chimney care for your home's safety and efficiency

Local Chimney Sweep And Cleaning

Creosote builds up every time you burn wood - and it's the #1 cause of chimney fires. We clean the full flue system from top to firebox, removing soot, glazed creosote, and blockages so your chimney draws properly and your family stays safe.

Chimney Inspection

Level 1, 2, or 3 - we match the inspection to the situation. Buying a home? Level 2 with video. Annual checkup? Level 1 covers it. We document everything with photos and give you a clear report, not a sales pitch.

Chimney Repair

Cracked crowns, crumbling mortar joints, damaged flue tiles - we fix what's broken before it becomes a bigger problem. Most repairs take a day or less, and we'll show you exactly what needs work before we start.

Chimney Cap Installation

A chimney without a cap is an open invitation for rain, raccoons, and downdrafts. We install stainless steel and copper caps with built-in spark arrestors, custom-sized to fit your flue opening exactly.

Chimney Liner

Older chimneys often have cracked clay tiles or no liner at all - both are fire hazards. We install stainless steel and cast-in-place liners that meet current code and actually improve your draft.

Chimney Masonry Repair

Brick and mortar don't last forever, especially in humid climates. We repoint deteriorated joints, replace spalled bricks, and match existing materials so the repair blends in. Catches water problems before they reach your interior walls.

Chimney Flashing Repair

That dark stain on your ceiling near the chimney? Probably failed flashing. We remove the old material, install new step and counter flashing, and seal everything properly. Stops leaks at the source.

Chimney Rebuilds

When repair isn't enough, we rebuild. From the roofline up or from the foundation - depends on how far the damage goes. New masonry, new liner, new cap, new flashing. Done right so you won't need us again for decades.

Chimney Animal Removal

Scratching sounds? Foul smell? Birds, squirrels, and raccoons love chimneys. We remove them humanely, clear out nesting material, and cap the flue so they can't get back in.

Fireplace Cleaning

Ash piling up in the firebox, soot on the damper, smoke stains on the surround - we clean it all. Includes the firebox, smoke shelf, and damper assembly. Your fireplace will look and work like it should.

Chimney Fireplace Repair

Smoke pouring into the room instead of going up? Damper stuck? Cracked smoke chamber? We diagnose the actual problem - not guess - and fix it. Most fireplace issues are straightforward once you know where to look.

Firebox Repair

Cracked firebricks and deteriorated refractory panels are more than cosmetic - they let heat reach combustible framing behind the wall. We replace damaged bricks and mortar with proper heat-rated materials.

Gas Fireplace Cleaning

Gas fireplaces still need annual service. Dust coats the burner and logs, the pilot assembly corrodes, and the glass fogs up. We clean the full unit - burner, pilot, glass, and venting - so it runs clean and stays under warranty.

Gas Fireplace Repair

Pilot won't stay lit? No heat? Remote stopped working? We troubleshoot gas fireplace issues from thermocouples to valve assemblies. Certified on all major brands - Heatilator, Lennox, Napoleon, Majestic, and more.

Wood Stove Repair

Door gaskets wear out, baffles warp, glass cracks. We service all wood stove brands - replace worn parts, adjust the door seal, and make sure your stove drafts correctly. Gets your heat output back where it should be.

Pellet Stove Repair

Auger jams, igniter failures, control board errors - pellet stoves have more moving parts than most people realize. We diagnose and repair the issue, clean the exhaust path, and get your stove feeding and burning properly again.

Duct Cleaning

Your HVAC pushes air through every duct in the house - along with whatever's living in them. Dust, pet dander, mold spores, construction debris. We clean the full system and you'll notice the difference in air quality immediately.

Dryer Duct Cleaning

Lint in your dryer vent is a fire waiting to happen - it's one of the top causes of house fires nationally. We clean the full run from the dryer to the exterior vent. Clothes dry faster, energy bill drops, fire risk gone.

Commercial Air Duct Cleaning

Restaurants, offices, multi-unit buildings - commercial ductwork collects grease, dust, and allergens at scale. We schedule after hours to keep your business running and bring your system up to health code standards.

Chimney Liner Installation

December 7, 2025 Historic
Problem

Customer had an older painted masonry fireplace with heavy soot staining and visible residue buildup in the firebox, indicating the flue was not properly lined and creating an increased creosote/fire risk. Exterior inspection showed the brick chimney, crown and flashing generally intact but the system lacked a modern liner and a properly fitted insert for safe, efficient operation.

Solution

Performed a full chimney relining and rebuilt the firebox interior using light-colored firebrick in a herringbone pattern with fresh mortar, and installed a prefabricated fireplace insert into the OSB-sheathed chimney mass on the covered patio. Verified and adjusted step flashing at the roof, installed/confirmed the black metal chimney cap, leveled the insert, cleaned the firebox and hearth, and documented the remaining electrical/finish work for the homeowner's contractor.

The fireplace is now properly relined, clean, and fitted with a level, code-compliant insert which improves draft and reduces creosote risk; exterior flashing and cap were addressed to help prevent water intrusion. Customer was shown the work, advised on safe operation and recommended annual inspections.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions from South Mills

How much does a standard chimney sweep cost in the South Mills area, and does our humid NC climate affect the price? LOCAL

+

In South Mills, the cost for a standard Level 1 chimney sweep and inspection generally ranges from $225 to $350. Factors influencing this price include the type of fireplace you own and how much creosote has built up. Given the humidity in North Carolina, moisture can turn creosote sticky, making it tougher to remove and potentially raising the price due to the extra time and tools required. To stay on top of this buildup, I recommend scheduling annual cleanings. This not only keeps costs predictable but also helps maintain your chimney's safety. After assessing your chimney, we can provide a no-obligation quote tailored to your specific needs.

With the humid summers and wet winters we get here in South Mills, how often should I really get my chimney inspected, even if I don't use it much? LOCAL

+

In South Mills, an annual chimney inspection is essential, even if you rarely use your fireplace. Our humid coastal climate can accelerate masonry wear and encourage wildlife to nest inside chimneys, creating blockages. National safety standards advocate for yearly inspections, but in our area, it’s especially wise to adhere to this guideline. Regular checks will ensure your chimney cap is secure and that flashing is intact to prevent leaks from heavy rain. By maintaining an annual schedule, you’ll catch any potential issues before they turn into costly repairs.

I live in South Mills and only use my fireplace during the occasional cold snap. When is the best time of year to schedule a chimney sweep to avoid the fall rush? LOCAL

+

In South Mills, the ideal time for scheduling your chimney sweep is in the off-season, which runs from late spring through summer (April to August). By avoiding the fall rush, you can secure a more convenient appointment. Many homeowners procrastinate until that first cold snap, leading to a rush in October. Scheduling during the warmer months not only gives you flexibility but also allows us to check for moisture-related issues from our humid climate, giving you peace of mind when winter arrives.

With the humid South Mills climate and occasional nor'easters, how often should I really get my chimney inspected for safety, and are there any specific NC regulations I need to know about? LOCAL

+

In South Mills, while there are no state laws dictating specific inspection frequencies, aligning with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 211 recommendations for annual inspections is prudent. Our climate causes moisture that can lead to corrosive buildup in chimneys, posing hazards if left unchecked. After winter storms, being proactive about inspections is even more critical to ensure your chimney's structural integrity and to check for blockages. Annual inspections are a small investment for the big peace of mind they provide.

Are there specific North Carolina state or local codes I need to be aware of when installing a new fireplace or wood stove in my Southmills home? LOCAL

+

In South Mills, installations of new fireplaces or wood stoves must comply with the North Carolina State Building Code, which covers various safety standards for chimneys. You'll need a permit from Camden County before starting any installation. This is crucial for ensuring that your system is safe, especially given our area's challenges with high winds. A licensed installer will navigate this process, ensuring compliance with both state and county regulations, ultimately safeguarding your home.
